Winter Gear

Winter season has just started and counting the number of inches of snow we are getting so far, here's how I survived: -

(1) Check weather before I leave home.
It is so important for a city like New York, especially during winter time. The weather here can be so unpredictable, one day can be 32F(0C) and the next can be 15F(-9C). You will be embarrassed to put on a heavy scarf on a 45F(7C) day and killing yourself for not wearing a pair of gloves on a 6F(-14C) morning.

(2) Wear appropriately.
Put on a water-proof jacket for a rainy or snow day, always wise to have hoodie on if wearing a hat will mess up your hair.

(3) Invest in a pair of snow boots.
Not everyone would do this but it's so worth it to have one, your socks and toes won't get wet that means it won't freeze you to death.

(4) Toe-y socks aren't warmer.
Tis something that took me years to comprehend. The fact that it wraps all your toes doesn't mean it's warmer than the regular cover-all type. Now I switched mine to woolen ones.

(5) Moisturize your skin.
Inside out, including your lips.

(6) Wear good scarves, not nice scarves.
Opt versatility over fashion, keeping your neck warm is so vital you could wear 1~2 layers less if you wear a good scarf.

(7) Hands-free for wintry days.
If the snow is thick or the roads are slippery, wear a backpack to work instead. Advantage: you can keep some food/water in the bag just in case you are stranded somewhere. Your two hands are free therefore allows you to grab hold of anything just in case you slip. Have your cellphone within reach too!
