Yet another BSA

Zoe, our goddaughter received another Best Student Award recently. At first I didn't see the significance of her winning. She already won the BSA for the month of October the previous year (see my 2009 blog), and this year before her awards ceremony in March, she told me that she won for October again, sighing deeply as if hoping to win in a different month to decorate her achievements.

But when I come to think of it as students were making their ways to the stage in the Awards Ceremony last week, winning the October BSA is actually the 'most prestigious' and not as ordinary as she thought. It is because school year in U.S. starts in September, and October would be the first month class teachers pick their best students, two from each class. So being picked as Best Student in the first month tells how distinctive our goddaughter is. I quickly shared my thoughts with Richard and Zoe's mom (of course she knew it but didn't brag about it) and that revelation brought us euphoric appreciation to the special meaning of winning indeed the best of the best.

This girl did us proud. Of course even if she doesn't win one, it doesn't change a bit of our love for her.
